POSITION SUMMARY  

 

The Risk Manager provides leadership, analytical support and guidance on all risk management related issues, including by way of example, the appropriate levels of insurance including, including deductibles, as well as coverage levels, claims management, insurance renewals, The Risk Manager should maintain a strong partnership with restaurant operations to continue to improve policies, procedures, measurement systems and safety training tools. Additionally, special projects and investigative studies should be conducted in both workers comp and general liability areas to continuously improve effectiveness. Finally, this is a hands-on position, requiring a "roll-up the shirt sleeves mentality" and a strong work ethic. The duties and responsibilities listed below are those that must be met to successfully perform this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions below. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS   

 

  • Responsible for company's insurance and claims management program, including: overseeing incidents/accidents/events that could lead to financial loss, including property, directors and officers liability, professional liability as and where needed, and general liability and workers' compensation claim. 

  • Acts as a liaison with insurance brokers, insurance carriers, and TPA and company personnel regarding all insurance activities and negotiate annual insurance coverage for entire portfolio. 

  • Establishes interface guidelines with all parties to include, insurance adjusters, vendors and legal team for insurance claims by providing leadership in claims management. 

  • Oversees and audits claim loss financials, to include claim paid and reserve losses. 

  • Analyzes the claims exposure to determine the proper course of action and to appropriately settle a claim. 

  • Creates accurate reports, narratives and financial information as needed. Uses available data to track claims trends and other claim related metrics. 

  • Assist in ensuring that insurance policies and company procedures are updated and are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends. 

  • Obtain updated insurance certificates (COIs) upon policy renewal and drop coverage on units that have been closed or sold. Update coverage as needed for new units and special events, or circumstances. 

  • Familiar with Crisis Management Processes and take the lead on updating the Crisis Manual. 

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve processes and increase efficiencies. 

  • Ensures compliance of all State and Federal claim related laws, legislation, regulations and compliance issues.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE 

 

  • Must have 5 to 7 years recent risk management experience in a company with multiple locations. 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and supplemental course work in risk management, safety, and crisis management. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in resolving claims and negotiating settlements. 

  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations and OSHA requirements. 

  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills. 

  • Hospitality, Restaurant or Retail industry experience required. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish desirable. 

  • Some travel required. Attention to detail and able to multi-task 

  • Effective communication skills and collaborates across the enterprise 

  • Ability to maintain confidential information. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.   

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this position the team member is required to be able to perform periodic lifting of banker’s boxes (up to 25 lbs per box).  Team member will be required to sit for extended periods of time.  Team member will continuously be performing hand and wrist work including grasping.  Team member will frequently bend and twist.  Team member will occasionally push and pull, do fine hand manipulation, reach above the shoulder and kneel or squat.
